Keeley and another brief visit to Hospital

After numerous requests I thought I had better update the blog.

As per the last entry we were very happy to announce the safe arrival of Keeley at 3.32am on Thursday the 12th of February. Here's how it all unfolded...
Things kicked off on Wednesdat the 11th. Seeing as how she was a week over due our doctor thought it was time to give her a bit of encouragement, and so it was inducement time! We left Xander in the safe hands of Grandma and Grandfer, who were going to drop him off at school the next morning, while Marshall, Amelia and Nate were having a sleep over at Aunty Catherine's house folowed by an extra day at Pelican, and we toddeled off for our 4pm appt at the hospital.
We were well over waiting and we both wanted to meet our baby. A quiet afternoon, being prodded and poked , (Dette not me), watching TV and then off to bed in the Hospital. The first lot of gel didn't seem to be doing much, so a second lot was used around 10pm. Things finally started kicking off around 1am with good, regular contractions. Gran and Dr Lam were both called, and both arrived in plenty of time. Keeley was born 45 minutes after Dette's water was broken, with one push. (Dette loves gas!!)
The other kids were well looked after, thanks Grandma and Grandfer and Cath and family so there was no rush to get home. So I got to spend some time with Keeley and Mum before going to get the musketeers. Here are some pics.

In the birthing room, before Keeley arrived.

Keeley, about 5 minutes old, having skin on skin cuddles with mum to get her body temp sorted.

And here she is, wrapped snug as a bug, 20 minutes old.

After picking up the kids we all went back to the hospital to meet Keeley and have first cuddles. All the children were over the moon and very excited and all cooed over her whilst having a cuddle. I think Nate wins the prize for the most smitten....

Beautiful mother and child.Flaked out.

So after an hour or so it was off home for tea and BEDDDD. We had spent some time the day before making a huge lasagna so it was just a matter of chucking it in the microwave. I was just dishing up when I heard Marshall choking. I grabbed him up and began hitting him, (this was the first time hes been hit he's not that naughty) and rang 000. I think I was able to dislodge something or anyway he was now screaming so I figured he was breathing. He also said, "coin, coin". Right, human money bank it is.

By this stage Amelia and Xander were getting upset but Nate was asleep , god bless him. So I sent them outside to meet the ambos. I also rang Martin, who beat the ambos here and helped calm the situation a bit. The ambos arrived after 10 minutes - no lights or sirens because they knew Marshall was breathing - the 000 operator could hear him answering me, and checked him out. We were told it was all good, and we would meet the coin again in a few days, and off they went. Marty left too.
The second they left he began being violently sick. Much stress and many phone calls ~ Alison came straigth over and watched the kids until Gran could get here ~ and we were off to Hospital, unfortunately not the same one as Keeley!

The nurse and Doctor at the Hospital weren't too concerned, well that was until they saw the X-ray!

Well as you can see this wasn't good so off to resus and up to surgery. Turns out it was a dollar coin and rather nastily located. A general, followed by a 5 minute procedure to remove the coin , a night in the peadiatric ward and some yummy brekky and he is as good as new.

Black Saturday

It's a very sad and tragic day in Victoria with horrific loss of life in bush fires across the state. Its 10pm on Sunday night and every time you click on heraldsun.com.au the death toll goes up. Its now up to 84 deaths and up to 650 homes destroyed.

The fire was close enough for us to smell the smoke but well and truly far enough away for us to be safe. There were some fires in Narre Warren East. It was a stinking hot day 46.7.
It is pretty hard to imagine the extent of it but the bottom photo shows Marysville, every house and shop in the whole suburb is destroyed with a large number of residents dead. Dette is always saying she wouldn't go up to the hills because of fires, I always poohpoohed her but i am on board now. The wind was so strong the fire was on these poor people before they had a chance to leave.

If I was at work I would have gone up there and helped and i feel a bit like i should so we are going to give the baby's clothes that we don't need (boy or girl not yet known) to the families that have lost everything and the kids are going to choose some toys and teddies to donate.

On a significantly happier note, Carmel moved into her new home on Friday and has settled in, Dette is slightly more over being pregnant and we are keen to take the short drive to South Eastern Hospital.

The Biggest Loser

In the spirit of the new season of The Biggest Loser I have recommenced my fitness kick. I do pick some good times to start these things. As a hopeless IT toy person I have linked the GPS on my iPhone with a program called RunKeeper which tracks via satellite all my runs/bike rides. I am on the bike this week to get a little bit of condition though the huge thighs.

Anyway you can track my progress (see below) and I will post some links to my endeavours on the blog.

Weight as of 1/2/09 ------------ 107KG . BMI 29.6 (thanks IPhone)
Target weight at this stage is 100KG then ill work from there.

Ants

The last few days we have encountered the invasion of the ants. The hot weather has certainly driven the little blighters in and driven us insane. So while Dette vacs up our insect enemies I entertained the kids with a bit of legoing (is that a word)

Marshall is rather taken on making police goals/ cars.

Watch out Fraser, Im coming.....
